Doris Bolling named Lanier County’s
Teacher of the Year
Doris Bolling was named the 2009-2010 Teacher of
the Year at the system’s annual employee
appreciation breakfast held during pre-planning.
Mrs. Bolling was selected from the three
school level nominees by a panel of outside
judges.
She will now go on to represent Lanier
County as candidate for Georgia’s Teacher of the
Year.
Mrs. Bolling, a fifth grade
teacher, at Lanier County Elementary School,
chose teaching as a profession because of her
love for children.
In describing her beliefs about teaching,
Mrs. Bolling believes that students learn in a
variety of ways and at their own ability level,
but truly believes all students can learn.
If students are learning, then she feels
that she is doing her job as a teacher.
According to Mrs. Bolling, the rewards of
teaching are not materialistic, but come from
knowing that she is making a difference in the
life of a child.
She has been teaching at the elementary
level for 30 years.
Other teachers who were
honored for being named as their schools’
Teacher of the Year were Clarence Luke from
Lanier County Middle School and Ben Culpepper
from Lanier County High School.
Additional faculty members
were recognized for their creative instructional
strategies resulting in increased student
success.
Each school principal presented an
Educational Pedagogy Award to these faculty
members.
Recipients of the awards were Leigh Guy,
Lanier County Elementary School, Lynn Vickers,
Lanier County Middle School and Donna Cook,
Lanier County High School.
Ms. Ivy Harbert and Ms.
Sally Kurrie were also recognized and honored
for their years of service to Lanier County
Schools.
Keith Humphrey, superintendent, presented
a retirement plaque to both individuals.
Ms. Harbert retired with 17 years of
service and Ms. Kurrie with 11 years of service.

Chapter Show Case Manual
Junior is a team event that recognizes chapters
that develop and implement a well-balanced
program of work and promote FCCLA and Family and
Consumer Sciences and/or related occupations.
According to the participants, the
project taught then a great deal about
organizing and presenting information to others
and it let them know that they can make a
difference. They recognize that although Dancie,
Shenika, and Abeni were allowed to shine at this
National FCCLA meeting, the person making all
this possible was Mrs. Marina Ortiz and without
her leadership, direction, and love for them
none of their accomplishments would have been
possible.
The Lanier County FCCLA Chapter
would like to thank the following people for
their support: Lanier County Board of
Education; Superintendent Keith Humphrey;
LCHS Principal, Tim Cochran; the Career
Technical and Agriculture Education Director,
Kevin Moore; Mr. Chuck Everett of Family
Connections, and everyone else who has supported
the organization. Without their support,
the chapter members would have been unable to
participate in this once in lifetime learning
experience.
